Schuyler Smith is a close friend of many years. Together we've taken thousands of photographs in several western states. He shoots mostly IR (near infrared), while I prefer the visible spectrum. His image "The Eastern Range" is used with his permission.
Galen Rowell was a tremendous inspiration to me. Very early in my career I discovered his books and tapes were a gold mine of information. Every chance I got I was out in the field applying his techniques to my own style of shooting. If you ever get the chance, visit his gallery in Bishop, California. It's a wonderful experience.
I think Art Wolfe's images are like a breath of fresh air. His images range from intimate macro shots to sweeping landscapes - with pretty much everything in between. He currently has a TV series on PBS titled "Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe".
When I purchased my first SLR, I bought a Nikon because Galen Rowell used Nikon equipment and I loved his images. I've never been sorry, and never looked back. Over the years I've owned several Nikon bodies and lenses - and loved 'em all.
